Venetian harbour, Firkas and the Maritime Museum
On the west side of the old harbour, opposite the lighthouse, the Firkas fortress was built by the Venetians shortly before the Ottoman occupation of 1645 and used as barracks; the Greek flag was raised there in 1913 after Crete's union with Greece. The Maritime Museum of Crete stands at its entrance. On the east side, the Moro shipyard houses the Museum of Ancient and Traditional Shipbuilding with Minoa, a replica Minoan ship built in 2003 that carried the Olympic flame to Piraeus in 2004. No official hours page was opened for either museum.
