Flights and Airlines
Greece has two very different kinds of airport. Athens runs all year round. The island airports, Corfu among them, are summer operations that shrink back to a domestic service in winter. Here is who flies where, and exactly what you can carry on board.
Athens airport, the basics
Opening hours. Open 24 hours a day, all year, with no curfew and no overnight ban on flights.
Night flights. There are night noise rules rather than a curfew. Between 23:00 and 07:00 runway 21L is not used for landings and runway 03R is not used for take offs, so night traffic shifts to the western runway. Engine run ups are daytime only, 07:00 to 23:00. Noisier older aircraft are barred around the clock from those runway movements, and Chapter 2 jets have been banned since 2002. Air mail, state, ambulance, police, humanitarian and emergency flights are exempt.
The detailed night rules come from a flight path noise record citing the Greek aeronautical information publication, not from the airport's own pages, so treat them as indicative.
Corfu airport, the basics
Opening hours. Listed as open 24 hours, with the airport and the control tower both shown as H24 in the AC-U-KWIK aeronautical record, and slots required. No night curfew is published on that record or on the airport's own site.
In practice. In practice the passenger terminal is not a 24 hour operation. When no flights are scheduled it effectively closes overnight, after the last evening arrival until the early morning bank, and airport buses stop after 22:30. This comes from traveller guides rather than the airport, so treat it as a guide, not a rule.
Winter. In winter Corfu reverts to being close to a domestic airport. The lounge closes from 2 November to 31 March and cafes open only around flight times. The only routes verified as running all year are the domestic flights to Athens, on Aegean and Sky Express. Both airlines were showing Corfu to Athens fares for November 2026, December 2026 and January 2027 when checked. No international route was confirmed as year round. That is an unverified gap, not a statement that none exists.

Common questions
Do I get a free cabin bag in the overhead locker? It depends on the airline and the fare. Aegean, Olympic Air, Sky Express, Jet2 and TUI include a free cabin bag. Ryanair, easyJet, Wizz Air, Volotea, Transavia, Vueling and Eurowings on its BASIC fare give you only a free under seat bag and charge for the overhead one. Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian withhold it on their cheapest Economy Basic fare.
What size is the free under seat bag? It varies by airline. Ryanair, Wizz Air, Volotea, Vueling and Jet2 allow 40 x 30 x 20 cm. easyJet allows a larger 45 x 36 x 20 cm including handles and wheels. Most full service airlines allow 40 x 30 x 15 cm.
Does Corfu airport close at night or in winter? Corfu airport is listed as open 24 hours with no published night curfew, but in practice the passenger terminal is not a 24 hour operation and effectively closes overnight when no flights are scheduled. In winter the airport reduces sharply. The only routes verified as running all year are the domestic flights to Athens on Aegean and Sky Express.
Does Athens airport have a night curfew? No. Athens International Airport is open 24 hours a day all year with no curfew and no overnight ban on flights. There are night noise rules instead: between 23:00 and 07:00 runway 21L is not used for landings and runway 03R is not used for take offs.
