The Greek theatre season is a winter affair, with the ancient venues taking over in summer.
Greek theatre is busiest in winter, when the summer venues close and the city stages take over. Athens has one of the highest numbers of working theatres per head in Europe. Most productions are in Greek, so check before booking if that matters to you.

Ancient drama staged at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens and the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus in the Peloponnese. Epidaurus has acoustics that carry a whisper to the back row, and seeing a tragedy there is the reason many people plan a summer trip around it.
Six productions announced for the new season, by premiere date. Most are in Greek. Read on 4 Oct 2026; each card names its source.
