An unpretentious city meze place in the narrow pedestrian stretch of Kostis Palamas street in Kavala. Stavros Chalvatzopoulos ran it simply until 2024, when he retired and his son Giannis took over the kitchen with dishes made with care and kept free of fancy twists. Proini's food writer singles out the soutzoukakia, a tigania in three versions, calf liver, calf tongue, and sautéed potatoes with eggs.

A family taverna in the Panagia quarter of Kavala. It began on 14 February 1988 as a kafeneio opened by Ilias Chatzisavvas, who came home after running a Greek restaurant in Toronto, and later became a taverna. His children run it today and son Tolis greets guests; the cooking leans to meat without neglecting seafood. Proini's food writer picks ewe chops, a Greek T bone steak, soutzoukaki giaourtlou, pork tigania and an XL burger of beef and pork, plus the shrimp pasta.
